Larry Elder was a Republican candidate for governor during the failed effort to recall Gavin Newsom. He is a conservative radio-talk-show host and has ties to the Epoch Times, a notorious conspiracist site that spreads Q conspiracies and other disinformation. They have inserted themselves in France, Germany, and the US to promote fascist politicians and other right-wing extremists.
When he ran for governor, Alexandra Datig, his ex-fiancée, broke the Non-Disclosure Agreement he had her sign to warn voters that he was abusive and threatened her with a gun. He denied the allegation, but she did file a police report and risked financial consequences to go public. Prosecutors did not pursue the allegations because the statute of limitations had run out.
Elder has a long history of misogyny. He talked about sexual harassment allegations against him, claiming that one woman was too ugly for it to be true. He wrote that women need to tolerate sexual harassment at work. He said women know less about politics, economics, and current events.
