2: Roy Moore

Roy Moore was an Alabama judge who became famous for his theocratic defiance of the Constitutional separation of church and state, eventually resulting in his ouster from the Alabama Supreme Court twice. Of course, this notoriety resulted in him winning the Republican primary to replace Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions when he was appointed U.S. Attorney General.

Three women came forward alleging he sexually assaulted them when they were 14, 16, and 28 years old. Six other women recounted stories of his dating them when they were in high school and he was in his 30s. At first, he admitted dating the women but said they were older. He later changed his story and said he didn’t know them.

The woman who claimed he assaulted her when she was 14 has sued for defamation and the trial began January 24, 2022. When she filed four years ago, she said, “By this lawsuit, I seek to do what I could not do as a 14-year-old — hold Mr. Moore and those who enable him accountable,”
