Daniel Dean Thompson thought modern movies were too full of profanity and nudity. He claimed to have founded CleanFLIX where he bowdlerized popular films. He edited out the swear words and the nudity. But this was a front. He was also producing child sexual assault material with Isaac R. Lifferth, films of him and Liffert raping two fourteen-year-old girls he paid for sex.
Thompson was charged with two charges of forcible sexual abuse and two charges of unlawful sexual activity with a 14-year-old. Lifferth was arrested on two charges of forcible sexual abuse, a charge of unlawful possession of a prescription drug, two charges of aiding prostitution, two charges of unlawful sexual activity with a 14-year-old, and two charges of patronizing a prostitute.
Thompson pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to 210 days plus 60 days on a monitor but that was judged too harsh so he got 44 days.
There is a CleanFlix documentary that unfortunately promotes the conviction as Hollywood payback, There is some confusion about the ownership of the club. All the contemporaneous news accounts name Thompson as owner. Many say Lifferth was co-owner. Others say Clifford was an employee. The film says neither were owners.
The Salt Lake Tribune utterly disgraced itself with this introduction to their article on his reduced sentence, “The owner of an Orem film-sanitizing company will have to go to jail for 44 days for a one-minute sexual encounter with two 14-year-old girls in January.”
