672: David Smock

David Smock served as the doctor at Agape, a Christian boarding school for unruly boys in Missouri. Agape has become notorious for allegations of abuse and trafficking. In 2020

Missouri is a popular place for Christian boarding schools since until recently they were not even required to register with the state, let alone be regulated by the state to ensure the children’s well-being. After the Circle of Hope and Agape boarding school scandals, the Missouri legislature passed some minimal regulations such as background checks for all boarding school employees, requiring unlicensed schools to notify the state they exist, and requiring they follow health and safety regulations. One of the boarding school involved in creating the relatively weak new rules immediately sued to block everything.

David Smock has been accused of sexually assaulting boys and covering up the physical abuse of students by other staff members. He was a fugitive for a while before being arrested in Arkansas. He has been charged in two separate counties for thirteen felonies including sexual assaulting minor boys.
