1073: Earl Worden

Earl David Worden

Earl David Worden was a gun rights activist whom some credited with co-founding Open Carry Texas. He was a valued member and they rallied to support him when he was arrested. He was also anti-police and part of the Photography Is Not a Crime movement, which is a good movement that should not be tarnished by association with him. As a conspiracist, he also was involved in the auditor movement by filming government buildings, police, and entering public building with arms insisting they have the right to open carry.

He was convicted of kidnapping and rape while pretending to be a police officer in the 80s, he was on the sex offender list, and, as a felon, prohibited for having firearms. He had several felon in possession arrests.

There is an amazing collection of documents from PoliceCrimes.com

During the investigation of a complaint that he threatened a man’s daughter, they discovered he had sexually abused his daughter. She physically fought told her mother, and was sent to live with her grandmother. His other daughters disclosed abuse as well. It was contemporaneously reported but police did nothing.

Worden was convicted of sexual assault in the 80s and in 2022 was convicted of raping his daughter. He was sentenced to twenty years. He appealed the conviction and it is waiting for his lawyer to file a brief. He is currently in prison. Case No. 01-23-00133-CR if you want to follow his efforts to appeal.

  1. There seems to be a lot of untrue and misleading information in this article. No one disputes that Worden is a bad actor.
I’d like to know what resources you used in order to confirm he was a co-founder of open carry Texas.
Worden was not a co-founder or even a member of the group. He did attend one or two of their demonstrations because it tied in with his first amendment auditing due to the problems they were having with the Olmos Park police department.
From all the videos I’ve ever seen involving Worden I have never witnessed him saying or expressing he was anti-police.
Members of this group are not anti-police they are anti bad police.
This whole first amendment auditing and cop watching community is born out of the actions of corrupt and dirty cops.
There is thousands if not tens of thousands of videos on YouTube that are updated daily that support their narrative.
I don’t belong or have any affiliation with these groups nor have the time to do what they do but the videos don’t lie. How you label these people as conspiracy theorists is beyond me.
Could you please direct me to any of his videos where he says or claims he has a right to enter public buildings open carrying?
Depending on what state you reside in, it is lawful to entire public buildings open carrying a fire arm.
I looked and couldn’t find Worden’s political party registration could you please let us know how you determined he is a Republican?
Nobody is questioning if this guy is a POS, I think we all can agree upon that but with that said he was convicted on very little to no real evidence on a case twenty plus years old. The only reason this case was ultimately prosecuted was because of Worden’s first amendment activities. Harris County, Texas leads the entire in country in exonerations and wrongful convictions. His case in my opinion will be overturned. Is he guilty? I don’t know but if I was a betting person I’d say yes. But I don’t want to live in a nation where people are prosecuted for crimes that occurred over twenty years ago because they record police activity. There wouldn’t be all these people running around recording police unless there was a reason to do so.
I have no issue about you writing about Worden and all provable things he has done in the past. Definitely not a good person but this article contains many falsehoods. CJ Grisham a retired First Sergeant who is also a combat veteran and an attorney is the founding member of Open Carry Texas. He founded OCT in 2013 after two separate arrests.

  2. I labeled David Earl Worden a conspiracist after listening to his interview with the police. I applaud filming the police, but frauditors do more than that, trying to provoke dramatic confrontations for likes and follows on social media. He was not being investigated because he was filming police, he was being investigated because an individual who was involved in Open Carry Texas reported that Worden had threatened him and threatened his daughter. While investigating that threat, they discovered that Worden’s daughter had made a complaint that was never acted on. In the course of investigating that assault, they discovered lots of corroboration in his assault of other children. He was convicted because there was more than the word of one person.

People should not get away with rape because they happen to live where the police don’t care about rape.

  3. “He was convicted because there was more than the word of one person” –> On 100% anecdotal “evidence” from over 20 years ago. Everyone knows that legally, this cannot meet the beyond reasonable doubt standard. Emotional anecdotal appeals, make it easy to fool a jury of uneducated yocals that there is enough evidence, but not an appeals court(that actually follows the law).
